4koma Manga Kingdom
4koma Manga Kingdom (4コマまんが王国, Yonkoma Manga Ōkoku, lit. "Four-Panel Manga Kingdom") is a series of yonkoma manga parody anthologies written and illustrated by various artists and published by Futabasha, based on various video game series such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
Changes of series
Dawn stage(1991–93)
- Futabasha started out publishing the comics "Famicom adventure Game Book" about game software around 1986. Meanwhile, the manga "4koma Manga Theater" released by ENIX started to gain popularity leading to the release of "4koma Manga Kingdom" in 1991. Ryo Sasaki designed the cover of the first edition and kept playing an active part in the creation of the following issues.
- The team who was working on the editions of this yonkoma was not definitely manned and so the artists were changing as the company was making new hiring. Around 1993 the starting artists were replaced by writers influenced by the golden age. Some of the leading artists were Ryo Sasaki, Satomi Nakamura, Noboru Matsuyama, Moritayasuhiro and Fukuhara-kun.
- The 4koma Manga Kingdom started to gain popularity and grew further after the release of its first magazine in March 1993.
Golden age(1994–97)
- An early work may think that all treat the game software of SuperMario or Nintendo mostly. "SuperMario 4koma Manga Kingdom" treating especially SuperMario is proud of the notability and the popularity on a par with "SuperMario 4koma Manga Theater" of 4koma Manga Theater.
- "Mario 4koma" of 4koma Manga Kingdom has the gag of the grade which does not break the image of a character in a position contrastive with it to main 4koma Manga Theater. So, burst-of-laughter NETA was also abundant and many individual writers had gathered. However, in volumes 5–7, the unprecedented situation where two great work houses of Satomi Nakamura and Moritayasuhiro in which popularity was brought together those days monopolized space mostly occurred, and the place where other manga artists play an active part was restricted.
- Although the big hit of Pokémon was received from 1996 and much 4koma manga comics of Pokémon was published from the other company, only why or Futabasha has not published. This has a certain back situation which is not published, and is spoken about as it was not able to publish.
- Since it was the time when the conventional prime writer camp and the writer camp which newly entered were intermingled during 1997 after 1996, it showed the climax exceeding the golden age before 1996. 4koma manga comics of all game software, such as SuperMario 64, Donkey Kong, Puyopuyo, and Kirby, is published one after another, the all are very high quality and the comics roaring with laughter are carried solemnly. It can be said that it was the golden age when the good members of a writer had gathered, without treating some writers favorably superfluously. Shizuma Azuma, Yoshilazu, etc. are playing an active part in the writer into whom Satomi Nakamura newly entered in the senior writer.
