7th Street/Metro Center station

7th Street/Metro Center is a subway station in the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located in the Financial District of Downtown Los Angeles under 7th Street between Figueroa Street, Flower Street, and Hope Street.[1]

Location

The station is served by the light rail A Line and E Line, heavy rail B Line and D Line, and by the bus rapid transit J Line. The A Line and E Line currently have their downtown terminus at this station. Many bus routes also serve the station.

This is one of only two stations in the entire system that has underground side platforms, the other being the Wilshire/Vermont station.

Station layout

The station was the first underground station in the Metro system, and consists of three underground levels. The main concourse is on the first level down, the light rail side platforms are on the second level down, while the heavy rail island platform is on the third level down. A small first level mezzanine connects the light rail side platforms. The Metro Silver Line stops at the street level next to the station's entrances. The station has direct access to The Bloc Shopping Mall (formerly known as Macy's Plaza) with a pedestrian-friendly entrance from the mall directly to the subway station.

Station enhancements

Metro spent nearly $2 million worth of enhancements to 7th Street/Metro Center station as part of the Expo Line project which was completed weeks before the Metro Expo Line began service to La Cienega/Jefferson Station. This enhancement included a new dispatch booth and improved signage in the station.[2]

Metro A & E Lines platforms (Upper Level)

Metro B & D Lines platform at 7th Street/Metro Center Station. At this transfer station passengers can connect to the Metro Silver Line at the street level, or the Metro A & E Lines above this platform.

Metro Rail and Metro Liner service

A Line hours are approximately from 4:00 AM until 1:00 AM daily. B and D Line hours are approximately from 5:00 AM until 12:00 AM daily. E Line hours are approximately from 4:00 AM until 2:00 AM daily. J Line operates 24 hours a day.

Metro Buses

Metro Bus lines 20, 51, 52, 60 (local) 460, 487, and 489 (express), and 720 (rapid) stop near the station entrances at 7th and Hope streets, 7th and Flower streets and 7th and Figueroa Streets.

Municipal buses

Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus express Line 10, and LADOT Dash shuttles Routes D, E, and F also stops at the 7th Street/Metro Center Station. Foothill Transit Commuter Express lines 493, 495, 497, 498, 499, 699 serve stops adjacent to the station on 7th and Figueroa Streets.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

Future service

When the Regional Connector is complete and opens for service in 2022, this station will no longer be the terminus for the A and E Lines. Instead, the rail lines will continue northeast to the rebuilt Little Tokyo/Arts District station on the current L Line. In addition, a complete restructuring of service will commence as follows:

• The E Line (colored gold on maps; the aqua color will be defunct) will run between Santa Monica and East Los Angeles.
• The A Line (colored blue on maps) will run from Long Beach and continue north to Azusa.
