AFC Club Competitions Ranking
The AFC Club Competitions Ranking is a ranking system launched by the AFC in 2014.[1] The ranking is based on the results of teams participating in the last four years of the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. The ranking is used for example to decide who plays who in the Champions League preliminary rounds. The AFC also publishes a club ranking, which currently only has informational value.

Calculation principle
The Club Competitions Ranking (former Member Association Ranking, or MA ranking) is used to rank associations and also used for seeding teams in the competitions. It is also used to allocate the number of entries and entry points to the competitions.[2] There are however many shifts each year with associations not meeting off field requirements.
The ranking consists of the total of points of member association's clubs over the past four year. The points of the leading team were made 100 points in percentage terms. All other associations are adjusted proportionally to the leading team.
Formula : total of real association points / total of real leading association points x 100% = points association in percentage
- example 1 : 40/50x100%=80 points in percentage
- example 2 :
Qatar's point in 2019 rank = 71.150
China's point in 2019 rank(the leading associations) = 72.867
Qatar's point in percentage : 71.150/72.867x100=97.643652133 or 97.644%
Before 2017 rankings, matches in qualifying stage are not counted and country ranking is solely based on number of points divided by number of participating teams. The ranking is consisted of 70% club points and 30% FIFA points.
Until 2017 rankings, matches in qualifying stage are counted and added to country’s points. The ranking is consisted of 90% club points and 10% FIFA points.[3]
From 2019 rankings, matches in qualifying stage are counted and added to country’s points. The ranking is consisted of 100% club points (national team's FIFA points no longer considered).
The club ranking is calculated as 20% association points plus the number of club points in Asian competitions in the last four years.
2019 Ranking
Used for allocating slots in 2021 and 2022 seasons.[4] The 2020 season did not award points for the ranking because of the cancellation of tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
