Alberto del Rio Chaviano
Alberto del Rio Chaviano was a Cuban colonel who served on the side of, and during Fulgencio Batista's reign of Cuba.[1] He had an essential role to play in the military during Operation Verano. He was commonly known as the "Jackal of the East."[1] He played an important role in the defense of the Batista regime during the Cuban Revolution. During the revolution, he was put in charge of the region in which Raul Castro's guerrilla unit operated.[2] After the Batista government stepped down, he fled to the Dominican Republic along with Antonio Policarpo Ochoa,[1] and then emigrated to the United States.
