The first part of the concert was broadcast on December 31, 2020 at 23:30 and the second part after midnight at 00:10 on BBC One.[3] Some viewers expressed dissatisfaction on social media with the fact that an American artist instead of a UK artist was performing. BBC responded to the criticism by stating that the show "was intended as an intimate and inclusive musical celebration to see in 2021" and the channel "felt that such a popular and respected artist would be a great way for viewers to see in the New Year".[5]
