Anne Evelyn Clark

Annie "Ann" Evelyn Clark BEM (1903, Waterloo, New South Wales, Australia – 1983, Singapore) was an Australian sportswoman, a coach and netball umpire and administrator.[1] After breaking her ankle in her first season of women’s basketball (netball), she decided to concentrate on umpiring and coaching.[1]

She was born to Victorian parents, George Cornelius Clarke and Martha Doige, the third of five and attended Redfern Public School. In 1929, she was a founding member of the New South Wales Women's Basketball Association. She held a range of executive positions on the board of the NSWWBA and with the All Australia Netball Association. She was president of the NSWWBA for 29 years (1950 to 1979).[1] Clark was five times (1955, 1960, 1966, 1972 and 1978) concurrently national president of the All Australia Women’s Basket Ball Association (from 1970 the All Australia Netball Association).[1]

She received an All Australian Service Award in 1964.[2] She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1975.[1] In 1976, the Anne Clark Service Award was introduced in her honour. In 1983, the NSW State Netball Centre was renamed the Anne Clarke Centre in her honour.[2]
