History
On February 6, 2018, Netgear made the announcement that the Board of Directors unanimously approved the separation of its Arlo business from Netgear. During the second quarter of 2018, Netgear's Arlo unit became a holding of Arlo Technologies, Inc. Arlo issued less than 20% of its common stock in the IPO, allowing Netgear to hold majority control.[6]
Matthew McRae currently serves as Arlo's CEO. Matthew joined Netgear in October 2017, taking the position as SVP of Strategy.[7]
Products
The original Arlo Security Camera[8] was released in the fourth quarter of 2014 on Amazon and at Best Buy.[2] The Arlo Security Camera is a battery-operated Wi-Fi security camera with 720p HD video quality, IP65-rated weather resistance and night vision.[9] The camera also has a passive infrared motion sensor, which, when activated, records a video of the motion event and notifies the user on their mobile device. As of the second quarter in 2015, Arlo had shipped over 100,000 Security Camera devices.[2] Arlo also makes variations of the device, including a portable and a baby monitoring version.[10] The newest addition, Arlo Ultra,[11] is also a battery operated Wi-Fi security camera with 4k HDR (High Dynamic Range) video, enhanced night vision, 180° panoramic view, integrated spotlight, and a noise cancellation feature.[12] This camera also has an auto-zoom and tracking feature which adjusts to movement, focusing its frame on whatever is moving. The data from the image sensors are analyzed frame-to-frame; if no movement is detected, nothing is transmitted to the base station. Arlo cameras are designed to use low power during normal "scan" mode.[13]
Current products include wire-free cameras, mobile cameras, AC-powered cameras, baby monitors, lights and smart doorbells.[14]
Manufacturing
Arlo manufacturing is outsourced to Foxconn and Pegatron.[2]
