College career
Brooks attended McNeil High School in Austin, Texas, where he played basketball. Lightly recruited out of high school, he enrolled at the University of Houston to play for the Houston Cougars men's basketball team under head coach Kelvin Sampson.[1][2] As a junior, Brooks posted 13.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30.7 minutes per game. He was named to the All-AAC Second Team and All-AAC Tournament Team.[3] Brooks declared for the 2019 NBA draft, and lost his final year of eligibility for college basketball.[4][5] Prior to the draft, Brooks' shooting ability was considered his best asset.[6]
Professional career
Brooks was not selected in the 2019 NBA draft, but signed with the Washington Wizards as an undrafted free agent to play in the 2019 NBA Summer League.[7][8] In August 2019, Brooks signed with the Atlanta Hawks.[3] On October 18, 2019, the Hawks waived Brooks.[9] He was added to the roster of the Hawks' NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks.[10] Brooks scored a career-high 38 points on January 24, 2020 against the Lakeland Magic. Four days later, he scored 32 points against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Brooks averaged 10.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game for the Skyhawks. On April 20, he signed with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.[11] However, Brooks did not play for the Rattlers as he sat out the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[12]
On January 11, 2021, Brooks was selected by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the first round of the NBA G League draft.[13] He will play for the Vipers in the 2021 G League season, scheduled for February at the Walt Disney Resort near Orlando, before joining the Auckland Huskies in New Zealand for the 2021 NBL season.[14]
