Basketball at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament

The men's basketball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics will be the 20th edition of the basketball event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It will be held from 25 July to 7 August 2021. All games will be played at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan.[1]

It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

Format

The twelve teams will be split in to three groups of four teams. The first two-placed teams advance to the quarterfinals aswell as the two best third-placed teams. After the preliminary round, the teams will be seeded accoring to theire results (four teams seeded and four unseeded), afterwards a draw will determine the pairings. From there on a knockout system is used.[3]
