Bhagnari

Bhagnaris are a Hindu Baloch community living in India.[1] They trace their origin to Southern Balochistan. They migrated to India after Partition.[2]

History

The Bhagnaris were inhabitants of the Bhag and Nar villages in the plains of southern Balochistan. They migrated to areas including Sindh and Punjab, and eventually settled down in Karachi in the 1830s. After Partition, they migrated to India and settled in Mumbai.[2]

Shree Bhagnari Panchayat

Shree Bhagnari Panchayat is the association of the Bhagnari community. It was formed by Takandas Hemraj Kataria, who helped Bhagnari Community to migrate from Pakistan. He built the Kataria Colony for Bhagnari families. In 2018, the road connecting Matunga East with the Veer Sawarkar Marg in Dadar’s Shivaji Park was named TH Kataria Marg in his memory.[3]

Demographics

The community consists of around one hundred and fifty families. They settled in Kataria Colony in Veer Savarkar Marg in Shivaji Park which was built in 1961.[2][3]
