Black Female Photographers

Black Female Photographers (BFP) is an online organization that uses media to unite black women photographers around the world.[1] The organization has over 2,000 members and was founded in 2008.[2]

BFP also hosts[3] a yearly Vision Conference to provide resources for their members.[4][5][6] The 2017 Vision Conference was in Dallas, Texas. The 2018 Vision Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, featured Rhea Whitney, Ty Pentecost, Ashley Canay, Jazzella McKeel, Trunetta Atwater, Mary Brown, Nicole Mondestin, Toni Shaw, and Joyanne Panton as speakers. The 2019 Vision Conference in Seattle, Washington, will host Joshua and Karris Farris, Trunetta Atwater, Chanel N. Wells-Henderson, Sabrina Hendley, Sammetria L. Goodson, and Victoria Delgado as speakers.

Founder

Kym Scott founded Black Female Photographers. Scott specializes in fine-art photography[7] and received a Certificate in Professional Photography from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. BFP emerged when Scott created a Facebook group to try to unite black women photographers and the page took off in popularity.[8] She lives in New England with her husband.[9]

Some featured members of this group include Jendayi Jackson, Tiffany King, Anesha Collins, Lajoy Cox, Janina Wiggins, Tina Strickland, Charmekia Bias, Tyrenda Pentecost, Cetera Odom-Melonson, Tyson Pough, and Taylor Brumfield, all of whom are black female photographers.[10]
