Black Snake (Shawnee)
Blacksnake or Captain Snake (Peteasua) was a diplomat and war leader of the Shawnee tribe of Native Americans during the era of American Revolutionary War. He was a leader in the defeat of Colonel William Crawford's army during the Crawford expedition of 1782. He was a feared leader of Shawnee war parties for many years.
He is often confused with a younger Shawnee leader, Big Snake (Shemeneto), a signer of the Treaty of Greenville in 1814.
