CJ (rapper)

Christopher Daniel Soriano, Jr.[1] (born January 4, 1997),[2][3] known professionally as CJ, is an American rapper and songwriter from Staten Island, New York.[4] He is best known for his 2020 breakout single "Whoopty", which peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart[5] and at number 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[6]

Career

CJ began rapping as a hobby at age 16, and recording and uploading songs to YouTube and SoundCloud at age 19.[7]

In July 2020, he self-released his breakout single "Whoopty", which peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in January 2021, and the UK top three.[8] He also reached the top of the Billboard Emerging Artists chart[9] He later signed a record deal with Warner Records and record executive James Cruz's record label Cruz Control Entertainment.[10] He stated that various labels reached out to him, however Warner had the "best situation".[11] On January 26, 2021, CJ released the single, "Bop", the follow-up to "Whoopty".[11] He is currently working on his debut EP, which is executive produced by French Montana.[11]

His music influences include 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and Wu-Tang Clan.[8] His uncle was once the President of Bad Boy Entertainment. [12]

He is of Puerto Rican descent.[13]
