Campo di Viale Lombardia
Campo di Viale Lombardia was a football stadium situated in Milan. In the foreground, there was the straight of the athletics track. Today the area on which the soccer field was once located is occupied by the Lombard Tennis Club. The entrance to the tennis club coincides with the Milan châlet built in 1919.[1]
History
Campo di Viale Lombardia was the venue of A.C. Milan. A.C. Milan played home matches in this stadium in 1920-26. The debut match at the Viale Lombardia stadium was Milan-Legnano (3:1). After new stadium built in 1926, A.C. Milan changed home venue to San Siro. Compared to the previous stadiums of AC Milan, Campo di Viale Lombardia was a futuristic facility (for the time) such as had a large reinforced concrete grandstand capable of accommodating about 20,000 spectators, a spacious staircase and a small villa hosting the management and changing rooms.[2]
This stadium was also home venue of Italy national football team in 1921-26 for six international football matches which italians won 3 matches and lost a match.[3] Two times Italy played match in Campo di Viale Lombardia in front of 25,000 spectators.
