Capture of Piedmonte
The Capture of Piedmonte was undertaken by the Polish II Corps between the 20th May - 25th May 1944. The Corps had very limited forces to capture Monte Cassino, Italy, and Piedmonte which were both exhausted and severely depleted after the fourth battle for Monte Cassini. The mixed battle group named "Bob Group" was formed under the command of the Deputy Commander of the 2 Polish Armoured Brigade but initially placed under the 5 Kresowa Division.
The battle involved three attacks over the 5 days of battle against between 250 and 300 Wehrmacht men.

Bob Group Consisted of the following
- 6th Armoured Regiment
- 5th and 13th Infantry Battalion
- One composite squadron 12 Podole Lancers Regiment
- Corps Headquarters Defence Company
- 3 Battery 9 Fd Arty Regt.
- 4 Fd Arty. Reg. (As direct support)
- One troop Self Propelled guns of 7th Anti tank regiment
- 10th and 11th Medium Regiments
- One Platoon Corps Troops Engineers, P.E.
- One Platoon 4.2” Mortars from 5 Kresowa Division
- Signal Equipment and transport from HQ 2 Armoured Brigade
