Carlo Longhi

Carlo Longhi (born 10 March 1944 in Rome, Italy) is a former Italian international football referee.[1] and sports commentator.

Career

He officiated 14 international matches and was member of FIFA in 1985–1991. He attributed four EURO qualifying matches 1988 (2) and 1992 (2), a match in World Cup 1990 qualification (OFC zone)[2] and others were in friendly matches which includes first home match of a national team of the reunified Germany on 19 December 1990 against Switzerland that won by 4:0 in Stuttgart.[3] He gave a red card in EURO 1992 qualification match played between Greece-Portugal (3:2) to Greek Stelios Manolas in 90th minute.[4] He also officiated a match in U20 World Cup 1987.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (2) and UEFA Cup (8).[5] He refereed 185 Serie A matches and 14 Coppa Italia matches in 1983–1991. He also officiated two Supercoppa Italiana matches in 1989 and 1990.

Personal life

From 1990 to 2006, he worked as a refereeing expert for the television company RAI and in 2006 RAI suspended Longhi as a precaution, because of relating to the Calciopoli investigation.[6][7]

Successes

He was awarded the Florindo Longagnani Award 1977, that is Best Young Serie A Referee and the Giovanni Mauro Award in 1987, that is Referee of Year in Italy.
