Donoghue joined Norwegian third-tier club Bærum SK from Sittingbourne ahead of the 1998 season. It was claimed in local media outlets that Donoghue had a background in Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he was a journeyman footballer with Bærum being his tenth club.[1]

Listed as one of Strømsgodset's new signings in early 2001,[2] Donoghue debuted in a friendly 5–2 victory over Vestfossen and was eulogized by his teammates and coach as a promising scorer.[3] However, the English attacker was unable to make it into the squad and only recorded 2 outings with 1 goal before being loaned to Osloklubben Mercantile in August,[4] getting released with 12 others by December.[5]
