Gameplay

Each level has two stages: the first sees the player try to use a catapult to fling penguins through a gap in the wall. Those that make it through are then brought into stage two, which has the player drop the penguins into an area filled with polar bears, the aim being to knock each of them out using the penguins. There is ice in the way that has to be broken/melted through.

Critical reception

Crazy Penguin Catapult

MacWorld wrote "For those looking for some great fun and hours of challenges Crazy Penguin Catapult is well worth the £1.79 for either your IPhone or iPod Touch".[1] Ultimate App Reviews said "For anyone who enjoys playing Angry Birds this just might be the game that you have been looking for".[2] MonsterFreeApps wrote "If you’re looking for a new game to add to your favorites then you should give this one a try. I promise you won’t be disappointed."[3] IGN concluded "Crazy Penguin Catapult is indeed a charming game and I think any casual gamer will get a lot of smiles from it. Admittedly, I was disappointed that this was a straight port of the mobile game without any real extras. However, I suspect the majority of people that play Catapult will be newcomers, so they will likely not notice it."[4] TouchMyApps said "The games are standalone fun, and Crazy Penguin Party definitely makes a good companion to games with family and friends."[5] AppChatter said "If you are looking for a game that will keep you occupied for awhile, this may not be the one for you. However, if you are looking for a fun way to kill some time, enjoy."[6] Hindistan Times described it as an Angry Birds rip-off, arguing "Replace the cutesy birds with not-so-cutesy penguins and sniggerin pigs with boxing polar bears and what you get is Crazy Penguin Catapult. You can play it free online. Really, who comes up with these things?".[7] Thappera wrote "Undeniably, this is one of Digital Chocolate’s best games. It is also one of the higher rated games. The sound effects and the reactions these animals show are really endearing and enhance the gameplay. We suggest you buy it while it’s on sale. As always, all Digital Chocolate games come with lite version. Download it if you’re on the fence. There’s simply no reason not to."[8] AppSafari said "Fun, entertaining and a high fly app that should be on any serious app collector’s iPhone."[9] The iPhoneAppReview noted "Crazy Penguin Catapult Lite may not have all the features of the full-version, but for a free game, it’s a great package."[10]

Crazy Penguin Catapult 2

AppAdvice wrote "I wish Digital Chocolate would have provided some innovation with the sequel, but I can’t blame them for not messing with success. This game is a solid should have, but not special enough to pass that."[11] SlideToPlay said " Until the game gets fixed, avoid playing into the bad bears' plot to make these penguins unlovable. "[12] PhoneGamesGuy wrote " A really fun and interesting mobile game, combining some puzzle elements with a lot of funny ideas, the only real downside of Crazy penguin catapult 2 is the fact that you have to play a level multiple times if you want to get that perfect score".[13] IGN said "And so, really, in spite of Crazy Penguin Catapult 2 being something of a rehash of the first game, I still cannot help enjoying it. The concept is brilliant and that's timeless. I think if you played the first game extensively, you may get less out of Crazy Penguin Catapult 2 than a newcomer. However, it's still fun as all get-out."[14] AppCrave wrote "Those of you who adored Crazy Penguin Catapult will surely appreciate Crazy Penguin Catapult 2 and those who have never played can check out a lite version of either for free. In some cases, familiarity breeds contempt, but its hard to hate either version of Crazy Penguins. You get better power ups with Crazy Penguin Catapult 2, but both versions offer casual, entertaining on-the-go fun."[15]
