The History behind Cuco

  • NO CREW: The film was made without a crew. Francisco Lorite used his cast as the crew. Each actor played a role in the film but also participated in the production (line-producing, location scouting, art direction, etc.) by contributing his or her filmmaking skills.
  • NO MONEY: Each actor provided the initial financing, making a symbolic jump-starting donation of $100 to the production and thus all becoming co-producers of the film under the A Cool Co-op shingle.
  • NO CASTING: Each role was specifically written for the actors Francisco Lorite knew from his own acting gigs or from auditions and whom he wanted to work with.
  • MOTIVATIONS: What gave Francisco Lorite the idea to write Cuco’s story was the real life building and wacky community he lives in, where he ended up finding all of his actors. He also was interested in addressing the themes of miscommunication and gossip in small communities.
