The total 2008–2009 high school enrollment was 640 students, and 501 students in the middle school, with 1,141 students in the district in total. The current school building was built in 2000, though the original building was built in 1928.

In the 2008–2009 school year, the Delmar School District introduced a uniform policy replacing its original dress code.
In March 2010, the Delmar and Wicomico Boards of Education approved modification of the Bi-State Agreement, which allows cross-border student enrollment. The passage of the modification moves 5th graders at Delmar Elementary School, which is on the Maryland side of town, to the middle school, beginning in the 2010–2011 school year.
