Devudu Chesina Manushulu

Devudu Chesina Manushulu (transl. God-made humans) is a 1973 Indian Telugu-language action-drama film directed by V. Ramachandra Rao, produced by G. Hanumantha Rao under the Padmalaya Studios banner and presented by Krishna. The film stars N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna, Jayalalitha, Vijaya Nirmala with music composed by Ramesh Naidu.[1] The film was remade in Hindi as Takkar under the same banner.[2] The film was a commercial success.[3]

Plot

The story is about a Zamindar Dasaradharamaiah (S. V. Ranga Rao); his eldest son Ramakrishna (N. T. Rama Rao) gets lost in childhood due to the wickedness of his stepmother and her brother, who attempt to kill him. After that, he becomes a smuggler as Ramu, who later changes to a good man and in an accidental way, comes to his estate but couldn't reveal his identity as his past haunts him. While on the other hand, Dasaradharamaiah's second son Gopi (Krishna) & daughter Geeta (Kanchana) lead carefree and level-headed lives. Meanwhile, a smuggler assumes the identity of an honest man Hari Prasad (Jaggayya), who looks like him, in order to evade the police. Finally, Ramu gets the smugglers and his gang arrested, brings change in his brother and sister's behaviour and joins his family, they live happily ever after.

Reception

Critical reception

Giddaluri Gopal Rao, writing for Zamin Ryot on 24 August 1973, gave a mixed review for the film. Although he praised the production and cinematography, Rao criticised the film for its unreal scenes and poorly written characters.[5]

Box office

The film was commercially successful and ran for more than 175 days in two centers, Vijayawada and Nellore.[3] The song "Masaka Masaka Cheekatilo" sung by L. R. Eswari and pictured on actress Kanchana became popular.[6]
