Dimitry Kochenov
Dimitry Vladimirovich Kochenov is an expert on citizenship and nationality law who holds a chair in European Constitutional law and Citizenship at the University of Groningen.[1] Kochenov states, "The glorified “citizenship” of political science textbooks, bound up with dignity and rights, could not be further disconnected from the citizenship experienced by the majority of the Earth's population, delivering violent liabilities and limiting opportunities: an extinguisher of hope."[2] He considers citizenship to be an unjustifiable form of apartheid, comparing it to racism, sexism, and slavery, and advocates its complete abolition.[3]
In 2020, he was reprimanded for breaking University of Groningen's conflict of interest rules, having failed to disclose his role as a paid consultant to Malta, when the country changed its laws to allow citizenship by investment.[4]
