Ecological Society of Australia

The Ecological Society of Australia (ESA) is a professional association of ecologists in Australia, with more than 1100 members. ESA is more than 60 years old.[1] The current president of ESA is Don Driscoll.[2]

ESA publishes two journals: Austral Ecology [3] and Ecological Management and Restoration. The society holds an annual conference with approximately 600 delegates in attendance.

Censorship issue

An article published by Nature in September 2020 detailed results of a survey of ecology-related scientists via Conservation Letters that indicated many were experiencing increased pressure to suppress information about their scientific research,[4] in Australia and around the world, and ESA offered some suggestions for solutions through institutional changes. They also noted that the organization had established a permanent online portal for anonymous reporting of suppression of information derived through environmental research.
