Egisto Ferroni

Egisto Ferroni (14 December 1835 – 25 May 1912) was an Italian painter, depicting pastoral, rural, and genre subjects.

History

He was born in Lastra a Signa near Florence in Tuscany, Italy. He initially studied sculpture alongside Ulisse Cambi at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, but had to quit because he was ill with hemoptysis.[1] In 1875 Ferroni, traveling together with Francesco Gioli, Giovanni Fattori, and Niccolò Cannicci, visited Paris.

One of his large pictures, painted out of doors, is entitled In the Field (Fra il grano ), and represents a peasant standing in the midst of tall grain; it is in the Gallery of Modern Art in Florence.[2] Among other works are Il tagliaboschi (The wood cutter), Torna il Babbo (The child returns), Uno stornello, and Riposo.[3]
