Elizabeth Burmaster

Elizabeth Burmaster (born July 26, 1954) is an American educator who served the Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin from 2001 to 2009.[1] Burmaster was succeeded in the role by Tony Evers, who went on to become the Governor of Wisconsin after the 2018 election.[2]

Life and career

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Burmaster received her bachelor's and master's degrees from University of Wisconsin–Madison and began her career working in public school administration. Burmaster has honorary doctorates from Beloit College and Edgewood College.[3] In 2009, Burmaster was appointed President of Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, serving until 2014.[4]

Burmaster was appointed President of Frederick Community College, in Frederick, Maryland, in 2014, where she still currently serves as head administrator.[5][6]

Despite faculty complaints of a hostile work environment and toxic culture at Frederick Community College, the college's board voted to approve Burmaster's contract extension until 2023.[7]
