Embassy of the United States, Helsinki

The Embassy of the United States to Finland in Helsinki is located in the Kaivopuisto district at Itäinen Puistotie 14, where it comprises the main part of block no. 204. The embassy's estate is 1,2 hectares in size.[1] The embassy maintains the American Resource Center, which operates in connection with the Helsinki University Library at the Kaisa House in Kaisaniemi.[2]

The United States recognized Finland's independence in 1919 (a couple of years later of the Independence of Finland) and established an embassy in Helsinki in March 1920.[3] The United States Congress provided funding for the construction of its own embassy building in Helsinki in 1935. The building was completed at the turn of the 1940s[4] and it was not until 2002 that the sturdy fence surrounding the embassy site was added.[5]

Ambassador Robert F. Pence is currently the Chief of Staff at the Embassy.
