Fedders

Fedders Corporation is an American company that manufactures air conditioners and other air treatment products. Founded by Theodore Fedders in 1896, Fedders is headquartered in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States.[1]

Fedders was founded in 1896 by Theodore Fedder as a producer of milk cans, bread pans and kerosene tanks. The company began manufacturing air conditioners in 1947.[2] Fedders purchased Airtemp from Chrysler in 1976.[3]

Fedders owns or licenses several trademarks, including Fedders, Emerson Quiet Kool, Airtemp, Sun, Koppel, Eubank, Polenz, and Maytag.

In 2008, Fedders was purchased out of chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings by France-based Airwell, a division of Israel-based Elco Holdings.[4] In 2012, Singapore-based Hong Leong Asia Ltd., purchased Elco's Asian air conditioning business, including the brand name and global trademark rights for the Fedders name.[5][6]
