Fraxel
Fraxel Laser Treatment is a line of non-surgical lasers for facial rejuvenation developed by Reliant Technologies, Inc. (new Solta Medical) in 2004 from a concept of dermatological treatment that takes advantage of the skin's regenerative process by treating it in a fractional manner. The technology was developed from a US patent licensed from the Wellman Center for Photomedicine with Prof. R. Rox Anderson as the inventor, based on a concept called fractional photothermolysis.
Fraxel lasers cause fractional photothermolysis for skin resurfacing to treat a range of skin conditions. Different fraxel systems use either an Erbium fiber laser at 1550 nm, or a dual wavelength Erbium-fiber pumped Thulium fiber laser with both 1550 nm and 1927 nm, respectively, in a single device. Both are nonablative. An ablative fractional resurfacing laser was later introduced using a CO2 laser, also by Reliant Technologies, Inc.
