Gabriel Vicéns

Gabriel Vicéns (born March 16, 1988) is a guitarist and composer from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico currently living in New York City.[5]

He has recorded and/or performed with many renowned artists including bassist Eddie Gómez, David Sánchez, Alex Sipiagin, Miguel Zenón, Paoli Mejias, Will Vinson, and John Benitez. [6]

He was part of the guitar faculty at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico from 2012 to 2015 [7] and has released three albums as a leader: Point In Time (2012),[8][9][10][11] Days (2015) [12][13] and, The Way We Are Created (2021) [14][15][16] In 2020, he released as a co-leader the critically acclaimed debut album of the experimental ensemble from Puerto Rico, No Base Trio [17][18][19] under the radical label Setola di Maiale.

Vicéns received a B.M. degree in Jazz and Caribbean music studies from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico in 2010. He then attended the Aaron Copland School of Music studying with Paul Bollenback, Luis Perdomo, and Antonio Hart, receiving his M.M. in 2017. Most recently, Vicéns is pursuing a D.M.A. at Stony Brook University, studying with Ray Anderson and Daria Semegen. [15][20][21] He has also studied with post-minimalist composer Lois V. Vierk and Puerto Rican composer Carlos Cabrer. Besides being a musician, Vicéns is also an active painter. He has shown his works in various venues in New York City and studies with Color Field painter Pat Lipsky at the historical Art Students League of New York. [22][23]
