George Allsopp (fur trader)

George Allsopp (c. 1733 14 April 1805) was British born businessman, who became acquainted with Canada while serving in the British Quartermaster General's Department during the Seven Years' War. During that time, he became one of the earliest British merchants to realize the financial potential of Canada.

Allsopp had a long and varied business career, most of it revolving around the fur trade. In 1766 he partnered with Joseph Howard and others who ran a number of unlicensed posts in defiance of the rules regarding the fur trade at that time.
