Career

In the 1980s - 1990s Pellissier used the moniker “Hank Hyena” as a San Francisco performance artist, slam poet, and metro journalist. He was featured at the Cleveland Performance Art Festival[1] where he shared the stage with Annie Sprinkle.[2] He was described as one of the “best representatives of 90’s shout it out poetry”[3] for his inclusion in the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry. Additionally, he was columnist and contributor to Salon.com.[4] SFGate.com[5] and GettingIt.com[6] and he produced a subversive fashion show of Austrian Undergarments for a Mozart Festival.[7] Under his own name, Pellissier co-produced ‘the world’s first atheist film festival” in San Francisco[8] and was The New York Times columnist of “Local Intelligence.”[9]

Pellissier started writing transhumanist/futurist essays in 2009; initially he wrote 22 for HplusMagazine.[10] In 2011 he wrote 30 articles[11] for the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies. Seven of his articles placed in the Top 12 in 2011 hits. In 2012 he was appointed the Managing Director of the IEET, plus he continued to write for the site, finishing the year with 4 articles in the Top 12. He also conducted a Transhumanist Survey[12] with funding from the Terasem Foundation. Additionally, with this funding he started the websites Transhumanity.net and the nonprofit Brighter Brains Institute, and produced eight TRANSHUMAN VISIONS conferences in the SF Bay Area[13] featuring speakers (both live and remote) like Aubrey de Grey, Max More, Natasha Vita More, James Hughes, David Brin, Zoltan Istvan, and Maria Konovalenko among others.[14][15]

Pellissier is the author of multiple e-books including, "Invent Utopia Now: Transhumanist Suggestions for the Pre-Singularity Era”, "Why is the IQ of Ashkenazi Jews so High?",[16] and "Brighter Brains - 225 Ways to Elevate or Injure IQ."[17] He's written 100 education articles for GreatSchools.org,[18] and “Forgiveness” articles for Greater Good Magazine. His essay “Eight Ways In-Vitro Meat Will Change Our Lives”[19]  has been re-published numerous times, including in Best of H+ Magazine.[20]

His Brighter Brains Institute built the “world’s first atheist orphanage” in Uganda in 2015[21][22] and it sent Soylent to support Mangyan villagers of the Philippines.[23] Pellissier stated that he finds "it appalling that people want to go to Mars but they neglect the fact that there are millions of people in the world who are starving.”[24]  In 2020, his nonprofit changed its name to Humanist Global Charity; it provided over $100,000 in humanitarian aid in 2019 to secular humanists in India and Sub-Saharan Africa[25] and it offers internships in Africa Development, India Development, and Wealth Redistribution.[26] Pellissier’s recent project Egalitarian Planet indicates his interest in Global Egalitarianism.[27]
