Hussain Dawood
Hussain Dawood (Urdu: حسین داؤد) (born 1943 in Bombay) is a Pakistani businessman, educationalist and philanthropist.[1]

Early life and career
Hussain Dawood was born in 1943 in Bombay, British India (now Mumbai).[1] He is the Chairman of Engro Corporation, Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited, Karachi Education Initiative,[3] Karachi School for Business & Leadership,[4] and The Dawood Foundation.[2][5][6][7][8]
He is also a member of the World Economic Forum and its Global Agenda Councils of Anti-Corruption and Education.[1]
His previous responsibilities include:
- Chairman of The Hub Power Company in Karachi for six years up to March 2018.[9][10]
- Director of the Pakistan Business Council[11] in Karachi
- Member of the Board of Governors at the Beaconhouse National University, Lahore
- Global Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE)[6][12]
- Member of the Advisory Committee of the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology in Karachi
- Member of the Board of Governors at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore[6]
- He has served as the Honorary Consul of Italy in Karachi, Pakistan.[13]
Education
Dawood has an masters in business administraton degree from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, United States, and is a graduate in metallurgy from Sheffield University, UK.[1][11]
Philanthropic work
The Dawood Foundation is a private charitable trust in Pakistan, formed by Hussain's father, Ahmed Dawood, in 1961. Hussain Dawood assumed the chairmanship of it in 2000. It operates various schools and supports the Engro Foundation. It has also done work in the sphere of medical care and has assisted in Pakistan those affected by the 2005 earthquake, 2010 floods, and the tsunami of 2004 in Pakistan, and COVID-19 in 2020.[14]
Awards and recognition
- Dawood received Lifetime Achievement Award by Marketing Association of Pakistan in 2016[2]
- He was awarded "Ufficiale Ordine Al merito della Republica Italiana" by the Republic of Italy.[6]
