Route description
State Highway 69 starts at its southern junction and terminus in Kuna. The highway heads eastward for a short distance then turns northward on Kuna-Meridian Road for several miles until it reaches its northern junction and terminus at Interstate 84, in Meridian.[1]
State Highway 69 is part of the Western Heritage Scenic Byway, in the National Scenic Byways Program.[2]
History
State Highway 69 is believed to have been in existence since 1955.
The highway originally started in Kuna following its existing route to Meridian. But instead of ending at Interstate 84 as it currently does, the highway continued north to its former junction with the historic alignment of US-30 which followed Franklin Road to the west, Main Street through town and then Fairview Avenue to the east. Highway 69 briefly followed historic US-30 eastward to the Eagle Highway which is now known as Eagle Road (also now known as State Highway 55). The highway then ended in central Eagle at its northern junction with State Highway 44 which then ran through town on State Street.[3]
Future
Plans are being considered that could extend State Highway 69 southward to a conceptual bypass route that is being considered south of Kuna as listed in conceptual documents in the communities in motion program by COMPASS.[4]
Major junctions
The entire route is in Ada County.
