Insurrection has a strategic relationship with HarperCollins where key books in SciFi, Drama and Comedy are optioned and developed into digital video and linear television series[5], as well as a multi-year SciFi production partnership with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and David Alpert of Skybound Entertainment.[6][7]
Series Productions
On Aug. 6th, 2019, Netflix announced the production of Insurrection's drama series Tiny Pretty Things. Season One of the ten-episode, hour-long series is being shot in Toronto, Canada. Based on the HarperCollins book by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Claytona,[8] the YA drama charts the rise and fall of young adults at an elite ballet academy, each standing on the verge of greatness or ruin.[9] Tiny Pretty Things was developed and produced by Insurrection Media, building upon its strategic relationship with HarperCollins.[10] The series is written and show-run by Michael MacLennan (Bomb Girls, The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco), directed by Gary Fleder (October Road, Life Unexpected, Kiss the Girls), and stars Kylie Jefferson (Davido’s Fall, SchoolboyQ’s Chopstix), Casimere Jollette (Code Black, Dirty John), Daniela Norman (Cats), Brennan Clost (The Next Step, Creeped Out), Michael Hsu Rosen (Jessica Jones, Broadway 's Torch Song), and Lauren Holly (Beautiful Girls, Dumb and Dumber, Picket Fences).[11]
In 2017, gestating from the strategic relationship with HarperCollins, Insurrection Media developed and produced The Dead Girls Detective Agency, a paranormal YA drama based on the novel written by Suzy Cox and adapted by Jerica Lieberman and Molly Margraf (ABC's Mistresses).[12] The show is a Snap Original through Indigo,[13] a studio formed by a joint venture between Snapchat and NBCUniversal.[14] The Dead Girls Detective Agency holds the record as the highest performing scripted show on Snapchat with the lowest episodic audience decay rate.[15] The Dead Girls Detective Agency was referenced by the Snap executive leadership during the February 5th earnings call in 2019 as evidence that their original content strategy is a success.[16][17] Insurrection is currently in production on season two which will premiere in Winter of 2019.[18]
Building on its partnership with Snap, Insurrection Media is currently in production on its scripted show Denton’s Death Date,[19] a Dark Comedy based on the novel Denton Little’s Deathdate by Lance Rubin,[20] set in a world where everyone knows the exact day they are going to die. The plot of the show centers on Denton Little, a high school junior whose death date is only a week away.[21] Denton finally starts living his life to the fullest when a series of strange events unfold that may be the key to avoiding his fate.[21]
Insurrection Media premiered its scripted podcast series Exeter on AMC's Sundance Now in 2018[22]. Created, directed and written by Ronnie Gunter (writer-director of “Lighter”, 2013) the drama-noir series features talented performances by Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love, Criminal Minds) and Oscar-winner Ray McKinnon (The Accountant, Sons of Anarchy) as diametrically opposed but dramatically entangled lead characters.[23] Due to its success, AMC ordered a second season of Exeter that premiered in 2019. Both seasons of the series, consisting of 12 thirty minute long episodes, were co-written by Ronnie Gunter and George Ducker (Luna e Leo, Ex-Best).[24]
In 2018, Insurrection Media produced the scripted comedy series Liberty Crossing in collaboration with Complex Networks.[25] Created and executive produced by six-time Emmy winner Daniel Radosh (The Daily Show) & Michael Harrison, the original comedy follows a hapless young intelligence analyst at the National Counterterrorism Center who must untangle a terror plot while navigating the office's petty backstabbing and bureaucracy—all the while tolerating his meddling family.[26] Starring Calum Worthy (The Act, American Vandal), Reginald VelJohnson (Family Matters, Die Hard, Ghostbusters), Pete Ploszek (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teen Wolf), Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf), Ashley Argota (True Jackson VP, The Fosters), James Urbaniak (Difficult People), Matt Besser (Founder Upright Citizens Brigade), and Adam Faison (Grace and Frankie, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Guest stars include Beth Littleford (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Daily Show, Drillbit Taylor) and Sara Paxton (This Is Us, Murder In the First). The cast was assembled by Seth Yanklewitz,[27] Emmy-nominated casting director for New Girl, The Hangover and East Bound and Down. The show was executive produced by Oscar-nominated Mason Novick (Juno, 500 Days of Summer, Young Adult), Michelle Knudsen (Bad Words, Hidden), Emmy-nominated[28] Deborah Henderson (Snow in August, The Two of Us) and directed by Todd Berger (It's a Disaster, Fung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five, The Happy Time Murders).[29]
