Johann Ulrich von Salis-Soglio

Johann Ulrich von Salis-Soglio (* 16th of March 1790 in Chur; † 27th of April 1874[1]) was a Swiss General who in the year of 1847 commanded the conservative Sonderbund alliance in the Sonderbund War.

Career

He chose a military career at a young age and became a member of the Swiss Army in 1809. Between 1809 and 1839 he served as an officer in foreign service in Bavaria and the Netherlands , rising to the rank of major general . He joined the General Staff of the Swiss Army in the rank of colonel in 1841.[2][3]
