John B. Gripon

John B. Gripon (1809-1847) was a Liberian pastor, legislator and judge.[1]

Gripon was born in 1809 in South Carolina as a free black resident. Gripon was literate as well as a carpenter. In 1840, he was elected to the colonial legislature of Liberia as an opposition candidate. He was a resident of Monrovia.[1]

On July 16, 1847, Gripon was one of twelve signers of the Liberian Declaration of Independence. In that same year, he was briefly a judge for Montserrado County, head of the Methodist Conference Liberia Seminary and a member of the Senate of Liberia for two months prior to his death.[1]
