John Christopher Ingham Roper-Curzon, 20th Baron Teynham
John Christopher Ingham Roper-Curzon (born 25 December 1928), popularly known as ‘Captain John’ is a member of the House of Roper and House of Curzon and the 20th Baron of Teynham.[1][2] He was born on 25 December 1928. His father was Christopher John Henry Roper-Curzon, and mother was Lady Elspeth Grace Whitaker, 6th Marchioness of Northampton, member of the Whitaker family. John's third name is in honor of Benjamin Ingham, his ancestor, who was the founder of Marsala wine and an export company in Palermo and remembered as the richest person of his time.[3][4] John's father was the 19th Baron of Teynham. On 31 October 1964, John married Lady Elizabeth Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, daughter to Henry James Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, 11th Earl of Dundee and great granddaughter to William H. W. Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch.[5][6]
Elizabeth and John got married at her home in Birkhill Castle.

Roper-Curzon attended Eton College in Windsor. While serving in the Coldstream Guards, he gained the rank of 2nd lieutenant, and in the year 1948, Roper-Curzon was elevated and given the rank of Captain while serving in the Buffs (TA) in Palestine.[7] Between the years 1953 to 1955, he served as the Bermuda's Governor and the Chief in Commander's ‘Aide-de-Camp’. And then in 1956, he again became the Leeward Islands’ Governor and ‘Aide-de-Camp’.Commander-in-Chief's [6]He also served as Governor of Jamaica. Finally, on the 5th May 1972, he succeeded as the ‘20th Baron Teynham, of Teynham’.[6]
He inherited Pylewell Park from his mother Lady Elspeth Grace Whitaker, of the Whitaker family.[8][9][10] In 1988, he and his wife Lady Elizabeth moved there and spent nearly a decade before leaving it to his son David John Henry Ingham Roper-Curzon, who resides there with his son Harry Roper-Curzon and other children.[6][11] His son David married Lucinda Airy, daughter of Major General Christopher Airy. One of his granddaughters is the singer Birdy.[12]
