John Withals

John Withals (d. c. 1555)[1] was an English lexicographer.

Life

Withals was born and raised in London. Originally a schoolmaster,[2] he was a contemporary of Peter Levens and Richard Huloet.

Bibliography

Withals was the author of one of the first English-Latin vocabulary for children.[2]In 1556 he published A Short Dictionary for Young Beginners.[3]
