Jozef Marko (referee)

Jozef Marko (born 19 May 1946 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia) was a Czechoslovak international football referee.[1]

Referee career

He officiated nine international matches in 1980-92. He officiated three World Cup qualifying matches 1990 (1) and 1994 (2), a EURO 1992 qualifying match[2] and others were in friendly matches. He officiated friendly match in 1992 played between Germany-Mexico (1:1) in Dresden, Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, that was Germany national football team's first home match in the territory of the former East Germany since the end of World War II.[3] He also refereed a match in U21 EURO 1992 and two matches in U20 1989 World Cup.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (3), Uefa Cup (6), Cup Winners Cup (2). [4] He refereed 28 Czechoslovak First League matches in 1990-1993.

Personal life

After the active refereeing career, he was member of UEFA Refereeing Commission for 21 years and served as Vice President of the UEFA referee's committee for a while.[5] In 2016 he was awarded UEFA Friends Club that is for only people who have worked for a UEFA commission for at least twelve years.[6][7]
