Every year, the Key Largo School safety patrols take a trip to Washington D.C. Each patrol raises $800 by the fundraisers such as Yankee Candle Fundraising, Cherry Dale, and Marshmallow City. The school opened its main building in 1950, as a Middle School. And later on built an Elementary School. In 2008, the school demolished the elementary school and built a new building that would fit all grades K-8. The old middle school building now accommodates electives.
