Promotion
A day prior to its release, "Let Me Love You Like A Woman" was announced by Del Rey on Instagram as the first single from her upcoming studio album, Chemtrails over the Country Club.[4] A music video for the track, released on YouTube along with the song, features clips of Del Rey with her family and friends, interchanged with a video of her singing the track while in her car, throughout the video. The music video was directed and edited by Del Rey herself and has since accumulated over four million views.[5]
On 14 December 2020, a pre-recorded performance of the song aired on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. It was set in a "moody" dive bar and was her first televised performance in nine years. [6] A week later, she performed the song alongside a cover of "Silent Night" with Jack Antonoff at the Ally Coalition Talent Show. [7]
Critical reception
"Let Me Love You Like a Woman" received generally favorable reviews from critics, with many complimenting the songwriting, but saying that the production felt too similar to her previous work.
In a positive review for NME, Rhian Daly stated that the song "is a swooning ode to starting anew" and features "gently swooning guitar licks bending over piano chords and brushed drums".[8] Mikael Wood of the Los Angeles Times made the connection between the song's themes and Del Rey's comments about femininity, "specifically that 'delicate' women 'get their own stories and voices taken away from them by stronger women".[1] In a mixed review for Pitchfork, Sam Sodomsky stated that "Let Me Love You Like a Woman" "does not foretell a new direction [for Del Rey's music]", and that "the production feels like an extended coda to one of the ballads from last year's Norman Fucking Rockwell".[9] In a Rolling Stone review of the song's performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jon Blistein described the dive bar setting as "dingy" but complimented other aspects of the performance, stating that it "had a strong and compelling aesthetic".[10]
