Main characters
Maudie Miller
Maudie Miller (portrayed by Anna Cooke) is an aspiring private investigator who was born in England (as revealed in "The Case of the Baffling Birthday"[2]). Her mother died when she was a young girl. She and her father, Brian Miller, lived in England before moving to Australia when she was 10 years old, and she was transferred into the local school in Moorabbin, Victoria. She is energetic and spontaneous, and on her first day at school she enters a classroom through the window and performs impressions of other students. When she solves a robbery on the playground, this leads herself and students Ezra, Ava and Kyle to form The Inbestigators investigative agency.[3] During her detective work, Maudie demonstrates that she is very observant, clever, insightful, and direct. Her blunt truthfulness sometimes helps, though Ezra feels that she is rude. She emulates Mr. Monk, saying his famous words: "This is what happened". Maudie notes all the clues of the cases in a little book, which is very special to her because it has the pictures she took with her mum on the last day they went to the movies together. She loves peanut butter and salmon sandwiches, which Ezra confirms are very disgusting.[nb 1]
Ezra Banks
Ezra Banks (portrayed by Aston Droomer) is a child with high potential (gifted) since 9 years old. He likes to be clean. He always suggests that the principal of the school (Mr. McGillick), whom Ezra calls "Henry" (much to the latter's dislike) redo the school website, despite the latter's repeated refusals. His mom wanted him to be mentally stimulated with a special project, so Mr. McGillick gave Ezra the job of introducing the new student, Maudie Miller. Ezra is fascinated when Maudie solves a mystery on the playground, causing him and two other grade 5 students, Ava and Kyle, to form The Inbestigators detective agency. Ezra likes technology, like the Franklin Cube, and tried to persuade Maudie to like it too. He is good at math and disinterested in sports, as he prefers to be clean, making him the opposite of Kyle. He won the Young Small Business Competition ("The Case of the Distracted Detective") and won the Trimathlon with Kyle. Ezra is very organized, is afraid of dogs and he isn't very good at rock climbing. He has a younger sister named Poppy who frequently interrupts him during the case reports. He considers Friday the best day, because his mom permits him to eat any unhealthy treat he wants (unlike other days).
Ava Andrikides
Ava Rose Andrikides (portrayed by Abby Bergman) acts as a vivacious leader of the school. She always cares about her school's growth, and always tries to raise money by selling cupcakes, donuts, hot-dogs and other things. She is also very proficient in party planning to the point it distracts her from focusing on the task on hand (she has stated that she is "good at investigating and party planning, just not at the same time.") Because of this, Ava became very well known in her office. She has also been friends with Ezra and Kyle since the age of 6, where the latter has a somewhat harsh relationship because he always forgets to pay what he owes. Ava is fascinated when Maudie solves a mystery on the playground, causing the four to form The Inbestigators detective agency. She is best friends with Pixie, and always defends her friends, which sometimes creates plot twists.
Kyle Klimson
Kyle Klimson (portrayed by Jamil Smyth-Secka) is the goofy sportsman of the school. Since age 5, he has been friends with Ava and Ezra (though the latter admits he doesn't know why). He is an energetic kid who likes sports. He, Ezra, Ava and Maudie form The Inbestigators detective agency. He is forgetful and easily distracted, and frequently interrupts the others to relate goofy theories about the cases they are solving. He is not very studious and accuses suspects without evidence. He isn't good at math, being the opposite of Ezra, who likes math and hates sports. In "The Case of the Tricky Trimathalon", Kyle proves to everyone and himself that he is capable at math with a cheat sheet, which allowed him to win the Trimathlon with Ezra.
Supporting characters
Mr. McGillick
Mr. Henry McGillick (portrayed by James Saunders) is the principal of the school. He believes that means running a tight ship. He dislikes that Ezra always calls him by his first name, and refuses Ezra's suggestions to remake the school's website. However, he doesn't seem to hate it when the professors call him Henry. He is also extremely attached to his mug given by his students years ago, which says World's Best Principal.
Miss Tan
Miss Tan (portrayed by Maria Angelico) is the grade 5 teacher. She is a passionate, creative and engaged teacher. Despite a tendency to become frazzled by the rowdiness of her students, she genuinely loves her job. She can be a little flustered at times and, according to Kyle, has a great tendency to lose everything.
Amelia Fitzgerald
Amelia Fitzgerald (portrayed by Hannah Johnston) is one of Ava's friends.
Poppy Banks
Poppy Banks (portrayed by Eliza Ong) is Ezra's younger sister. She always interrupts him during the case reports (especially to teach him about what their mother wants from them). She wants to report the cases, despite Ezra's repeated refusals, and also wants her brother to create a Junior Division for the agency. She is best friends with Mackenzie and friends with and Violet, although she is unkind to her in episode 18.
