This is a listing of people who were involved in the formation and growth of Maratha Empire. The Maratha Empire or the Maratha Confederacy was an Indian power that existed from 1647 to 1818. At its peak, the empire covered a territory of over 2.8 million km². The Marathas are credited to a large extent for ending the Mughal rule in India.[1][2][3]

Baji Rao I Baji Rao I was appointed Peshwa by Shahu. Bajirao is credited with expanding the Maratha Empire tenfold from 3% to 30% of the modern Indian landscape during 1720–1740. He fought over 41 major battles before his death in April 1740 and is reputed to have never lost one. Royal era

Yashwantrao Holkar Yashwantrao Holkar, Maharaja of Indore. He is known for the Siege of Bharatpur (1805) where he defeated the outnumbered British Army. Baji Prabhu Deshpande Baji Prabhu Deshpande (c. 1615-1660) was a commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire. In the Battle of Pavan Khind , Baji Prabhu, his brother Phulaji and the remaining Bandal Sena of about 300 men blocked the pass and fought against 10000 Bijapuri soldiers in the Ghodkhind Pass for more than 18 hours. Baji Prabhu, even though grievously injured, continued fighting, inspiring his men to fight on until Shivaji Maharaj's safe journey to Vishalgadh was signaled by the firing of three cannon volleys.
