Premise

When an unlucky girl stumbles upon the never-before-seen world of good and bad luck, she teams up with magical creatures to uncover a force more powerful than even luck itself.[3]

Production

Development

In July 2017, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media formed a multi-year partnership with Ilion Animation Studios, announcing its first animated feature film Luck, with a release date of March 19, 2021.[4] Alessandro Carloni signed on to direct the film, from a script by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger.[5][6] Skydance Animation hired former Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios CCO John Lasseter as Head of Animation, which started in late January 2019.[7][8] On January 14, 2020, Carloni was replaced by Peggy Holmes, who had previously directed Secret of the Wings and The Pirate Fairy for Lasseter, as the film's director.[9]

Casting

In April 2019, Emma Thompson was hired to voice a character in the film, but left the project after Lasseter was hired.[10]

Animation

Portions of production were done remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]

Release

Luck is scheduled to be released on February 18, 2022 by Apple TV+, in the United States.[11][12] The film was originally set to be released on March 19, 2021, but was delayed to its current release date.[4][13] On May 8, 2020, Skydance Animation president Holly Edwards revealed that the rough cut will have test screenings late in the summer of 2020.[3] On December 16, 2020, Apple TV+ secured the distribution rights to the films Luck and Spellbound.[11]
