Malee

Malee (Sinhala: මලී) is a 2011 Sri Lankan mystery thriller teledrama broadcast on TV Derana.[1] The series is produced by Janaka Siriwardena[2] and directed by Nimal Ratnayake.[3] It initially aired from every Monday to Thursday from 7.30 pm to 8 pm onwards but later changed to air on every weekday at 9 pm to 9.30 pm.[4] The series was followed by two more seasons - Aththamma (Malee 2) [5] and Sidu.

It stars Duleeka Marapana in lead role along with newcomer actors Samadhi Arunachaya and Sanketh Wickremage in supportive roles. The show becomes highly popular and was nominated for Sumathi Awards and Raigam Tele'es in many award categories.

Plot

Malee is a young girl who has wizarding powers which cures people. Her mother who named Dingiri is a Ayurvedic doctor in village named Mudunagala. One Day, Nirmal who worked as a divisional secretary in Mudunagala is bitten by a snake while he was in his duties. Malee sees it and removes poisons in Nirmal's leg. Then, She brings him to her home for treatment. Dingiri cures him and Malee befriends with Nirmal. She receives a proposal from Kusumsiri who lives in Malee's village.

Ukkuwa who is a Dingiri's cousin is a witchcraft practised man. He also has wizarding powers and uses it for bad things. But, He never could defeat Dingiri. Because of that, He hates her. His son, Nandipala is also practising witchcraft from his father. However, Ukkuwa tries to stop the birth of grandson to Dingiri's family because he knew that, if Dingiri had a grandson he must be powerful beyond all. Because of that, Ukkuwa kills Kusumsiri using his power to stop Malee's marriage.

Meanwhile, Nirmal helps Malee at many times. Soon, They falls each other and gets married. They move into another house and live happily. Soon, Malee gets pregnant and suffers from an abdominal pain. Nirmal informs it to Dingiri. Dingiri checks Malee and realises that Ukkuwa is trying to kill their child before birth. To save the child's life, Dingiri decides to separate the baby from Malee and Nirmal for 21 years after birth. Both Nirmal and Malee gets shocked after hearing that. Dingiri advices them to keep away from village for some time. Nirmal lives in town with Malee. After that, Dingiri informs this to her trustworthy friend Yasa and her daughter Muthu who is Malee's friend. Then, Muthu acts like she is pregnant under the Dingiri's advice.

However, Malee delivers a baby girl and Dingiri realises that the baby is a resource. Then, She informs them to come to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi with baby. Next Day, They come with baby while Muthu is also come with Dingiri. Dingiri takes the baby from Malee and gives Muthu to take care. Malee and Nirmal leave from there with teary eyes and visit to England. Muthu names the girl as Saradi and adopts her.
