Matthew Alford
Matthew Alford is a British writer and producer.
Journalism
Alford has written feature articles for The Guardian,[1] New Statesman,[2] Independent,[3] Filmfax,[4] Fortean Times,[5] and Morning Star.[6] Subjects have included feature films, pop music, censorship, PR, UFOs, conspiracy theories, and Noam Chomsky.
In 2019, RT reported that Alford's feature about omissions in mainstream media coverage of Western foreign policy was itself dropped by the commissioning magazine on the morning it was due to emerge. The magazine was left unnanmed. The piece appeared later across alternative media with an explanation of the edits that had been demanded.[7][8][9]
Films
In 2014, Alford produced The Writer with No Hands, a documentary that followed his research into the 1997 disappearance of Hollywood screenwriter Gary Devore.[10][11]
The Media Education Foundation is cited as distributor for Theatres of Command, a documentary co-produced by Alford and based on a 2017 book National Security Cinema he co-authored about the role of the US military and CIA in re-writing film and TV.[12]
Appearances
He appeared on an extended interview for Le Media[13] and as a talking head for features by Al Jazeera,[14] RT,[15][16] Canal Plus, and CBC.[17]
In 2020, he performed a solo stage version of The Writer with No Hands at the Edinburgh Free Fringe online and played himself as a "mediocre stand-up comedian" in a short docufiction in which he is recruited by MI5 to kidnap the US President.[18]
