Max Gilardi

Max Gilardi (born January 28, 1988),[1][2] known online as HotDiggedyDemon, is an American online animator, YouTube personality, voice actor and artist, best known for his "PONY.MOV" web series, a parody of the popular children's animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

Early life and education

Gilardi was born in Massachusetts on January 28, 1988.[2][3] He attended the art and design unit of Lesley University briefly before dropping out.[4]

Career

Gilardi, under the username "HotDiggedyDemon", started creating Flash animations during the early 2000s on Newgrounds.[3] In 2007, he began uploading his work to his YouTube channel and created Jerry, an adult animated black comedy web series detailing the terrible life of a man named Jerry.[2]

In 2010, he created the Wacky Game Jokez, 4 Kidz! series (also known as WGJ4K), another adult animated series featuring video game-based humor. In addition to creating animations, he co-hosted the Wisenheimers podcast with fellow animator Yotam Perel from 2010 to 2012.[5]

From 2011 to 2013, he gained notability for releasing his six-part video parody of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, "PONY.MOV", another adult animated web series in the art style of The Ren & Stimpy Show.[6][7] The series grew as a spin-off of Gilardi's Tumblr webcomic, "Ask Jappleack", and each video highlights a different character from the main cast of the television series.

Gilardi has over one million subscribers on YouTube.[8] The majority of his videos are self-made: written, animated, and voiced[4] by himself. In his more recent projects, he has experimented with and has since used 3D animation on par with his usual 2D animated style.[4][9] On September 2, 2016, Gilardi launched a new YouTube series titled Brain Dump, in which he reviews both films and television series in an often satirical way;[10] the series has since become the main series on his channel. He also served as a storyboard artist on the SpongeBob SquarePants episodes "The Krusty Slammer/Pineapple RV" and "Boss for a Day/The Goofy Newbie", which aired both as part of season 12.

Gilardi has previously cited animators Craig McCracken, Matt Groening, John Kricfalusi, Jhonen Vasquez, Danny Antonucci, Genndy Tartakovsky, United Productions of America, Hanna-Barbera, Junji Ito and Akira Toriyama as influences on his art and animation style.[11]
