History
In 1912, the school's enrollment was about 100 students.[2]
Athletics
Mt. Zion athletic teams are nicknamed the Braves and compete in the Apollo Conference.[3] The Braves boys' cross country team won the Illinois Class 1A state championship in 2011.[4]
Performing arts
MTZ fields two competitive show choirs, "Swingsations" and "Premiere". While both groups are mixed-gender, the school previously fielded an all-female group, "Les Femmes", and an all-male group, "You've Got Male", in addition to the two mixed-gender groups.[5] Swingsations has won national-level competitions before.[6] The program also hosts an annual competition, the Midwest Invitational.[7]
