Murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi
Nusrat Jahan Rafi was a 19–year-old Bangladeshi student who was murdered after reporting her sexual assault to authorities.[1][2] She was from Feni, Bangladesh.[1] She suffered burns over 80% of her body. She died 4 days later on the 10 April 2019 at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. She recorded a statement identifying some of her attackers while in transit to the hospital.[1]
Aftermath
After the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced that the responsible individuals would be prosecuted.[3]
On 29 May 2019, Police Bureau of Investigation(PBI) has submitted a charge sheet against sixteen individuals, including two politicians, were charged with murdering her. All 16 were sentenced to death on 24 October 2019.[4]
After a fast-tracked trial at the women and children repression prevention tribunal in Feni all sixteen including former members of the school's administration, teachers and pupils found guilty and have been sentenced to death for the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi.[5][4]
