Geography

It is located 25 km south of the district headquarters Namakkal, 3 km from Paramathi Velur the biggest town in Paramathi Velur Taluk, 14 km from Mohanur and 380 km from state capital Chennai.

Kalipalayam (8 km), Manappalli (8 km), Manickanatham (8 km), Irukkur (10 km), Pillaikalathur (10 km) are the nearby villages to Nanjai Edayar.

Thirumanimutharu River joins the Cauvery at Nanjai Edayar.

Kandasamy Kandar Trust

The founder of popular Kandasamy kandar's trust, Sri. Kandasamy kandar is from Nanjai Edayar. This Vanniyakulakshatria trust is running Government aided Elementary schools, Government aided middle school, Higher secondary schools,Matriculation schools and a college at Paramathi Velur, Namakkal, Kabilarmalai and Nanjai Edayar.

The trust's free homes for students are operated at Paramathi Velur, Salem and Chennai. Also, free milk for village infants has been supplied by Kandar trust for more than 100 years.

The Kandar trust is now headed by Dr.R.Somasundaram.Now he has been nominated as a member of Tamilnadu Vanniakula kshatria public charitable trust and endowments by Government of Tamilnadu.

Temples

Apart from popular Thiruveleeswarar temple built by Rajaraja Chola, Azhagu Nachchiyar temple, Mariamman temple and Raja temple complete the list of wonderful temples of this beautiful village.

The said temple has its history back to Mahabharatha days. This is one of the five Shiva temples that Bheema worshipped for being saved from Purusha miruga.

This river Manimutharu starts at Salem and runs through Paramathi Velur and joins the Cauvery at Nanjai Idayaru village. The said five Shiva temples are on the banks of this river – Sukavaneswarar in Salem, Karapuranathar in Uthamachozhapuram, Veeratteeswarar in Pilloor, Bheemeswarar in Mavureddi and Tiruveneeswarar in Nanjai Idayaru.

Worshipping all the five temples simultaneously is considered a great luck bringing showers of benefits to the devotee, according to belief among the people here.

Azhagu nachiar car festival is an important event of this village, held every year.

Education

Though having only one middle school, this village has produced many graduates who have excelled in their respective field.

The early graduate teachers Sri.C.Nagarajan and Sri.V.Swaminathan were proven models that many have taken teaching profession seeing them.

It may be said that the Doctors of 60s and 70s , Dr.M.Somasundaram, Dr.S.Chandrasekaran, Dr.V.Sankar & Dr. A.Manickavasagam induced the youngsters who studied medical thereafter.

Charted accountant M.Shanmugam, an All India rank holder in C.A final exams is from this village.

The father of Kabadi of our state Sri. M.Rathinasabapathy who brought Kabadi and started Tamilnadu kabadi association is from this Village.

A free coaching center has been run by Government employees that helps unemployed persons preparing their competitive exams. Apart from the local youth, rural people from nearby villages are also benefited here.

A small book publication company 'Nanjai Pathippagam' is publishing books for children and college students.
